Tom O'Rourke

Tom O’Rourke, a 1978 graduate of Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania, is the Executive Director of the Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission and responsible for the oversight of the over 10,000 acre park system consisting of a wide array of parks, programs and services.

Prior to joining CCPRC, Tom was the Director of the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and also established and served as the Manager of the Sports and Recreation Division for Seamon Whiteside and Associates, a Landscape Architect and Engineering firm.

Tom currently also serves as a member of the Clemson University School of Health, Education, and Human Development Advisory Committee and also the College of Charleston School of Hospitality and Tourism Management Advisory Board. He also is active in the NRPA Education, Training, and Professional Development Committee and is currently serving on the NRPA Revenue Task Force. As a past member of the NRPA National Forum Committee he is strong advocate for the profession. Tom Currently serves on the NRPA Revenue and Management School Board of Regents and also the NRPA Executive Development Program Board at Clemson University.

Tom holds memberships in the South Carolina Recreation and Parks Association, The National Parks and Recreation Association, and The National Association of County Park and Recreation Professionals.

He is married to Jackie O’Rourke, a high school math curriculum coordinator. They have three children, a son, Patrick who is a graduate of the College of Charleston, a daughter, Maggie, a graduate of Winthrop University and a son, Joey, a graduate of Clemson University.
