Steve & Cindy Scherrer

Paddling a canoe in the Boy Scouts in 1966 got Steve hooked on watersports and he has been an enthusiast ever since. Cindy started paddling when she met Steve in 1983. This launched a love affair with each other and paddling that continues to evolve. Whitewater, flatwater, kayaks, canoes, SUP, creekin’, squirt boats, outrigger, dragon boats, competition, cata-rafting, sailing, kayak surfing, sea boating… it’s ALL good!

In 1986 they co-founded Alder Creek Kayak and Canoe in Portland, OR and worked the retail/ instruction/ guide scene for 18 years. They sold the shop in 2004 and worked 10 years for Confluence Watersports helping design boats and gear, traveling and teaching paddlesports at many events around the country.

In 2014 they started a new company called Shellback Paddle Experience. This company specializes in American Canoe Association (ACA) training for instructors and consumers in both SUP and sea kayaking. They are ambassadors for several paddlesport manufacturers representing hard and soft goods that they use and believe to be some of the best available.

Steve and Cindy are currently on their third tour of the country with their dog, Piper, teaching courses, and presenting technical training for retail paddlesport shops.
