Offered prior to and after the symposium ends, our ACA Instructor Certification program polishes the paddling and teaching skills of already-competent paddlers aspiring to become instructors or trip leaders. ACA Pro School

L-2 SUP Instructor Certification Workshop


  • Date: April 18-20, 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m.

This workshop (IDW) with the certification exam (ICE) is for the ACA's L-2 Basic Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Instructor. This certification is for those teaching students in areas with mild winds and modest tidal currents. It emphasizes safety, efficiency, and self-reliance for those traveling by SUP in controlled conditions.

ACA L1-L2 Canoe Touring , Kayak Touring & SUP Instructor UPDATE

This certification update is for current L-1 and L-2 instructors. We have created a unique experience to further continuing education and also provide updates on national policy, curriculum changes, and feedback while working with authentic students. This diverse update will provide information from the chair of the SEIC and the ACA national office, as well as provide the opportunity to teach real students under the supervision of a top ITE and get growth oriented feedback. Finally, students will attend a selection of mandatory sessions during the East Coast Paddlesports Symposium, and will then have the freedom to select from a variety of other on-water and classroom sessions taught by some of the top instructors in the country! The experience will conclude with the opportunity to teach authentic students.

Adaptive Expeditions

ACA Adaptive Paddling Workshop (APW)


At the core of the ACA Adaptive Program, Adaptive Paddling Workshops (APWs) provide the information necessary to seamlessly integrate individuals with physical disabilities into outdoor recreation programs in the context of paddlesports. ACA Instructors in any paddling discipline can earn the Adaptive Paddling Instructor Endorsement. ACA Instructors can also receive a one-time Update for Instructor Certification maintenance.

L-2 Canoe Touring Instructor Certification Workshop

L-3 Coastal SUP Instructor Trainer Development Workshop

This certification workshop is for current SUP instructors wishing to upgrade their certification. The L-3 Coastal SUP is designed for instructors teaching SUP in the coastal environment. This course introduces paddlers to ocean safety and basic navigation techniques with a focus on fun. Safety, efficiency, and self-reliance are emphasized for those traveling by SUP in more exposed conditions. Participants must be current ACA members and have an ACA L-2 SUP instructor status.
