Unveiling McLeod Plantation Historic Site: Architects of Freedom - Resistance

Saturday, May 27, 2017

Before the American Civil War, African Americans became the architects of their own freedom and challenged the institution that enslaved them through active and passive resistance. Explore how African Americans at McLeod Plantation asserted their individuality and humanity, claiming freedom for themselves before and after emancipation. "Unveiling McLeod" tours delve deeply into history and reflect our most recent research, revealing new understandings of the people who lived here throughout history. In addition, participants are often allowed access to places typically not available to the public.

Ages 8 & up. A registered and paid chaperone is required for participants ages 15 and under.
