The Challenge Course at James Island County Park is truly a unique group experience. There is no boardroom, classroom or conference room that so aptly and intensely energizes groups to explore the depths of their capabilities. By removing individuals from a traditional environment and placing them in unconventional situations, the group is challenged on new levels, with new tasks, and naturally lives each valuable lesson. The Challenge Course is “learning by doing”.

Each Challenge Course program is tailored to the specific group goals. Each activity, initiative, and element has intrinsic skill areas; it may focus on goal setting, leadership, effective communication, problem solving, consensus, perspective, trust, confidence, or any combination of these and other valuable group and individual skills. We will design and facilitate a program that is flexible, dynamic, and - last but not least - fun!

“The course was a great way to start off the school year. It brought the faculty together outside the typical work environment. The group leaders were well-trained, kept things moving, and were effective facilitators."

“Every year during preseason, I take my team on a retreat to work on various aspects of team building. Our experience at James Island was one of the best that I have had in my 20 years of coaching. The combination of facilities and staff separate Charleston County Parks from the rest. The park is beautiful and the housing and meals allowed for a perfect setting to focus on the important aspects of team-building. I have found that while the environment is important, the connection between the facilitator and the team is critical. The facilitator did a tremendous job working with the team and coaches. Her ability to keep us centered and focused on our goals made the short time that we spent together extremely productive. Each one of us felt a real sense of accomplishment when we left James Island.”
