Charleston Single House
In the early 18th century, the Charleston Single House became one of the most prevalent home designs in Charleston. Even today, the historic streets of downtown are lined with these cultural dwellings. Traditionally, the side of the Single House fronts the street and is one-room wide and two-rooms deep. The one-room wide architecture allows for a welcomed cross-breeze through the home. Another unique feature of the Single House is that the entrance door facing the street may not lead you into the house - but instead, onto the end of an attached porch, known as a piazza.
The Charleston Single House ornament is 24kt gold on brass and is part of a collectible series. Proceeds from sales are used for the further development of the Holiday Festival of Lightsas a Lowcountry holiday tradition.
