Cooper River Marina Project

Purpose

A public information and input meeting for the conceptual master planning of the Cooper River Marina property was held on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018 at Military Magnet Academy. The purpose of the meeting was to determine community interest in recreational opportunities at the Cooper River site.

History

The Cooper River Marina is an approximately 25-acre park site located at 1010 Juneau Avenue in North Charleston, immediately south of the former Charleston Naval Base. Originally, the Cooper River Marina was an important part of the Charleston Naval Base’s recreational facilities. In 1995, CCPRC acquired the property for use as a public marina facility. The property was received through the Federal Lands to Parks Program of the National Park Service and is thus dedicated to public recreational use by the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). Use of the Cooper River Marina is currently limited to providing deep water slips and other amenities to recreational and transient boaters.

Next Steps

Upcoming work will include evaluating public comments, refining conceptual design plans, and finalizing and adopting a master plan for the site by mid-year 2019. All interested members of the public are invited to review the Master Planning Boards (PDF) and complete an online questionnaire. The questionnaire will be open through January 14, 2019.
