A Message from our Executive Director
“As much as all of our Charleston County Parks staff and I believe that local parks and recreation are an essential service to our community, the decision to close our Parks for now came down to our mission and vision. Even though I know the importance of our Parks to both physical and mental health and well-being, especially during these uncertain times, we currently cannot meet our standards of providing a clean and safe visitor and staff environment. Our Parks are places people want to gather – and right now with the combination of school being out, other events and spaces being canceled or closed, spring break and the warm weather, we are seeing a high volume of visitors, and this would only go against the recommendations we are following from the CDC to encourage social distancing. We are grateful for all of our visitors’ dedication to the Parks. Please continue to be safe, and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Parks soon,”
- David Bennett, Executive Director, Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission
