What should I bring with me?

Paddling Gear

  • 14-foot or greater kayak with bow and stern bulkheads or added flotation*
  • Paddle.* (A spare paddle is also recommended.)
  • Properly fitted neoprene or nylon spray skirt*
  • PFD/lifejacket with whistle
  • Dry bags for lunches or spare clothing
  • Water bottle and thermos
  • Helmet (required for Ocean Explorer and Ocean Improver groups)

*A limited number of rental and demo kayaks will be available on a first-come,first-served basis for $75 for three days. Package includes boat, neoprene or nylon spray skirt, and paddle. PFDs are also available, but we recommend that you bring your own. Please contact Joshua Hall by email if you need rental equipment.

Average water temp for this time of year is 65⁰, and air temperatures range from 50⁰ (low) to 75⁰ (high).

  • Comfortable, breathable layers (avoid cotton)
  • Drysuit or wetsuit (top and bottom, Farmer John/Jane) layered with paddling top and bottoms for wind protection
  • Good water shoes or wetsuit booties that will stay firmly on your feet while in the water
  • Hat for sun protection
