Sensory Inclusion in the Parks: Charleston County Parks partners with KultureCity
The Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission (CCPRC) has partnered with KultureCity, the nation's leading nonprofit on sensory accessibility and acceptance for those with invisible disabilities, to improve CCPRC’s ability to assist and accommodate guests with sensory needs. The objective is to provide an inclusive and seamless experience for all guests, including those with sensory needs, at select events this year.

Black History All Year Long: Focus on Women Continues May 6 (PDF)
The Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission’s discussion series called Black History All Year Long: Focus on Women continues on May 6. The role, impact, and unique challenges of Black women will be highlighted with another 90-minute virtual program held via ZOOM.
The discussion series debuted during Black History Month and will continue throughout the year. The format for each event includes a historical overview, special guest, and moderated discussion, ending with a question and answer session.

Natural & Cultural History at your Fingertips with the new Cell Phone Tour at Palmetto Islands
What if you could have your own personal guide join you on your park visit to describe the natural and cultural history of everything you see? Palmetto Islands County Park in Mount Pleasant is making that happen. The park’s new interpretive cell phone tour, which opened Fall 2011, allows visitors to access audio recordings, photos, and videos about Palmetto Islands County Park.

Moody’s Investor Services Gives Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission its Highest Rating
[CHARLESTON COUNTY] – On May 26, 2011, the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) was the proud recipient of a Aaa rating from Moody’s Investor Services, a leading provider of credit ratings, research and risk analysis for public agencies. Comparative to a financial management report card, this rating reflects CCPRC’s financial stability in a bond market for 2011 bonds. The Aaa designation reflects the highest possible rating for a government entity, and is a first for CCPRC.

CCPRC Purchases McLeod Plantation
On February 28, 2011, Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission
(CCPRC) purchased McLeod Plantation on James Island. The property was purchased from the
Trustees of Historic Charleston Foundation for $3.3 million.

Park Center to be Dedicated to Former Commissioner
The Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission is set to dedicate a building at one of the agency’s parks to a former commissioner. On February 24, the park center at Palmetto Islands County Park will be named in honor of Mr. E. Donald Pounder, chairman emeritus of CCPRC.

Wannamaker County Park Opens 2.5 Miles of Renovated Trails
The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) is proud to announce the completion of a nature trails project at its North Charleston Wannamaker County Park. The agency was able to add and renovate a combined 2.5 miles of nature trails.
