James Island County Park Rules

The Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission has Agency Rules and Regulations (PDF) that establish uniform procedures for the administration of activities within all parks and facilities. In addition to the established agency rules, the rules set forth below also govern James Island County Park.  

  1. Alcoholic beverages are only allowed in designated areas with an approved application.
  2. Smoking will not be allowed within the perimeter of the playground including the seating area. The confines of the Spray Play area are also no smoking zones.
  3. Radios must be kept at low volume.
  4. Fires allowed in cooking grills only.
  5. Removal or destruction of natural resources and wildlife prohibited.
  6. Metal detectors are not allowed.
  7. No swimming allowed in lakes, lagoons, ponds, or tidal creeks.
  8. Pets must be kept on a leash (except in dog park), cleaned up after, and under control at all times.
  9. We reserve the right to use photos or videos taken of visitors while they are at Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission facilities or events for publicity purposes.
  10. Motorized vehicles permitted on designated roadways only.
  11. Please stay on marked trails and paths.
  12. Firearms, fireworks, remote control airplanes, and any dangerous projectiles are prohibited.
  13. No bicycles, skates, rollerblades, or skateboards allowed on docks.
  14. Please walk bicycles on boardwalks and ramps.
  15. Fishing allowed in tidal creeks with valid fishing license.
  16. Freshwater fishing is offered in some areas of the park. Slot limit for red drum is 15-23” with a bag limit of 3 fish per person.
  17. All occupants of any canoe, kayak, or boat must wear a personal flotation device at all times while on any lake, lagoon, or pond.
  18. Activities involving sales and solicitation require written approval from park management.
  19. Park in designated areas only. Please lock your vehicle, and remove valuables from view. CCPRC is not responsible for any lost, damaged, or stolen property.
  20. Please don’t feed wildlife in your county parks. Animals that are hand-fed can become aggressive, steal food, and even bite visitors.

Spray Play Area

  1. Adult supervision is required.
  2. No bicycles, rollerblades, skates, skateboards, pets, or toys.
  3. No food or drinks.
  4. No running.
  5. Area may be closed periodically for inclement weather or maintenance.
  6. Smoking will not be allowed within the confines of the Spray Play area.
