Teen Venture Camp

(Ages 13-16) Get into the true spirit of adventure through our Teen Venture Camp, where campers will be fully immersed in the great outdoors. A variety of locations in the Carolinas will provide the backdrop for fun and exciting multi-day adventure sessions that will cultivate cooperation, leadership, and responsibility. This program also provides great opportunities for a unique physical challenge and to explore the limits of outdoor recreation. All necessary equipment and food for activity and overnights will be provided. There is a 4:1 camper-to-staff ratio with 8 campers per session.

Note: All sessions depart from James Island County Park. All necessary equipment and food is provided in the package. Participants should be in good physical condition and able to participate in a moderate level of physical activity. A detailed medical form must be completed and turned in prior to attending camp.

Sessions



Whitewater Kayak


  • June 11-14

Splash into the thrilling adventure of real whitewater kayaking with a four-day, three-night camping trip in the North Carolina mountains. The Class I and II rapids of the Tuckaseegee or other comparable river will be our arena for excitement. We'll start by learning and practicing basic skills including strokes, ferries, eddy turns, peel-outs, and river swimming before moving on to kayak surfing, rope throws, and river etiquette. We will be camping overnight at Tsali Recreation Area where meals and camping equipment will be provided. We will return to James Island County Park on Thursday evening. 

Mountain Bike

Explore some of the South Carolina's mountain bike trails with our skilled and experienced trip leaders. Teens will spend three days biking through the beautiful, and plentiful, trails of the Carolinas on the knobby tires of quality mountain bikes provided by our program. We will complete an overnight on Tuesday night at Harbison State Forest in Columbia, SC. Campers will be taught the fundamentals of mountain biking which includes the essentials of riding, bike maintenance, trail etiquette, and stewardship practices.

Rock Climb

In this four-day, three-night course, we're going to get vertical on some real rock at Pilot Mountain State Park in Pinnacle, North Carolina! We'll depart Charleston on Monday and explore climbing technique, equipment, safety, and belaying while experiencing the thrill of climbing the mountain face. We will set up base camp in North Carolina on Monday and return to Charleston on Thursday evening.

Stand Up Paddleboard

From flatwater to the front beach, we're going to have a blast stand up paddleboarding. We will start the week by gaining comfort with the equipment and learning basic skills and information on the lake at James Island County Park. On Tuesday, we will paddle the coastal waterways around Charleston and find some more challenging conditions. On Wednesday, we will discover the surf environment and surf some waves at one of our beautiful area beaches. We've got everything we need here in Charleston! 

Skateboard

In this session, we will learn some skateboard basics with the pro staff at SK8 Charleston! We'll explore equipment, safety, basic and intermediate techniques for skating, and discover different features available at SK8 Charleston. It's a form of transportation, fun, and competition. From the sidewalk, to flatland tricks, to the roots of skating in bowls up to the elite competitions of to the X-Games, get ready to skate.

Sea Kayak

Kayakers will learn the graceful operation and control of a sea kayak on the sparkling lake at James Island County Park. Trained personnel will provide instruction in proper nomenclature, paddling techniques, wet exits, navigation, and kayak rescues. After obtaining confidence and comfort in a kayak, training will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday offering opportunities to paddle some of our beautiful Charleston area waterways.
