The Jr. Lifeguard Program is designed for those with proficient swimming skills to become familiar with the aquatic environment, its hazards, and the demands of the job of a lifeguard. Participants will be actively involved with Charleston County Parks' beach and waterpark lifeguards to learn the basics of aquatic rescue. Lessons and activities include environmental awareness, first-aid, ocean-proofing, physical training, rescue equipment, teamwork, and waterpark visits.

Prerequisites
The Jr. Lifeguard program is very physically demanding, as junior guards are required to participate in running, ocean swimming, and lifeguarding drills. First-time participants must pass a swim test prior to the first day of the session:
- Ages 10-11: 75-yard swim test
- Ages 12-15: 125-yard swim test
Swim Test Schedules
Swim tests are scheduled at Palmetto Islands County Park in Mount Pleasant at Splash Island at 9 a.m. on May 23 and June 6, and at James Island County Park at Splash Zone at 9 a.m. on May 30 and June 13.
Program Registration
Registration opens 7 p.m. on Sunday, February 1.
