Canoe, Kayak, & Stand Up PaddleboardWhether you’re an expert paddler or just working up the courage to dip your toe into the water, our paddlesports program has everything you need to make the most of Charleston’s beautiful waterways. In fact, we’re recognized as an ACA Pro School, with certified paddling instructors who know just as much about fun as they do water safety. From weekend skills classes to day trips, we offer educational opportunities for beginner, intermediate, and expert paddlers.
Caw Caw Interpretive CenterJourney from the past to the present and heritage to habitat at the Ravenel Caw Caw Interpretive Center. Rich in natural, cultural and historical resources, Caw Caw was once part of several rice plantations and home to enslaved Africans who applied their technology and skills in agriculture to carve the series of rice fields out of cypress swamps.
Climbing Classes & TripsLearn all skills you need to get out climbing! Our climbing programs are offered for all ages and abilities and taught by a qualified staff. Master the basics of rock climbing, including belaying and technique. Other classes progress you to advanced skills such as anchor building, lead climbing, and self-rescue. The 50-foot Climbing Wall at James Island County Park features more than 4,500 square feet of climbing space including 14 top ropes and 2 lead climbing walls.
Concerts & DancesDust off your dancing shoes for music in your parks. Throughout the summer, live music of all varieties will fill the air with local and regional bands performing concerts in your parks and dances on your harbor and ocean piers.
Disc Golf Leagues & TournamentsOur disc golf leagues and tournaments are designed to be fun, challenging, and rewarding for all skill levels. Come out and enjoy the 18-hole course at James Island Island County Park with other local players.
Equestrian EventsMullet Hall Equestrian Center at Johns Island County Park is tucked within 738-acres and serves as host site for competitive horse shows, festivals, events, exhibitions, and trail riding.
Fishing TournamentsCome join us during the summer at the beautiful Mount Pleasant Pier and Folly Beach Pier for a season of Cast Off Fishing Tournaments and the Reel It In Weekly Challenge! The Charleston Trident Fishing Tournament is held annually from November 1-October 31 and recognizes outstanding saltwater and freshwater catches made anywhere in the tri-county area.

Folly Beach County ParkPrograms and events happening at Folly Beach County Park
Homeschool in the ParksLearn about natural and cultural history through games, exploration, and hands-on activities. Each program highlights an ecosystem, animal, or culturally significant story found in the park system. Middle school programs are for ages 10-13 and elementary programs are for ages 7-9.
McLeod Plantation Historic SitePrograms offered at McLeod Plantation Historic Site delve into history and reflect our most recent research, revealing new understandings of the people who lived here throughout history. In addition, participants are often allowed access to places typically not available to the public.
Nature & HistoryThroughout the year, a wide variety of fascinating natural, environmental, historical, and cultural programs and activities are offered at your Charleston County Parks. Our staff of professional naturalists and historical educators lead year-round programs, from bird walks to coastal exploration to the discussion of the Lowcountry from a historical perspective.
